GOOD (4)
I’ve been to Japan several times, though not since doing avoidance. I usually tried to stay in old Japanese ryokans which (I have realized) are less likely to have toxic mold problems than conventional hotels.
TOKYO: GOOD (4)
I visited Tokyo several times, in winter and summer. The last time was August 2006. I generally felt really good in Tokyo, a lot like I did in NYC.
KYOTO: POOR (2)
I visited Kyoto in August 1998. I liked the city a lot, but I didn’t feel especially good here.
OSAKA: FAIR (3)
I visited here in August 1998. It’s a big city and not that interesting, but I felt somewhat better here than I did in Kyoto.
TAKAYAMA: EXCELLENT (5)
This is a small village in the mountains of central Japan. I was here in August 1998 and felt really good.
HAKONE & MT. FUJI: FAIR (3)
I was here in August 1998, staying in an old hot springs hotel. I felt okay, to my recollection.
TOHOKU REGION: EXCELLENT (5)
This is a mountainous region north of Tokyo. It’s mostly rural, consisting largely of rice fields. I visited this region for a week in August 2006, spending time in Sendai, Matushita (a tourist city overlooking the ocean), and a number of old hot springs ryokans.
I felt better in this area than I had in years, achieving almost a full remission. I thought about moving here permanently, even though I do not speak Japanese.
Note that most of my time here was spent in the robes supplied by the Japanese inns rather than in my own clothes.
Unfortunately, Sendai is where the nuclear power plant melted down after the earthquake in Winter 2011. I doubt this region is very good now, therefore.
