It's our experience that discussions of the Locations Effect can be unexpectedly contentious. Most of this tends to be related to several issues.
The first is whether the Locations Effect is "real" and (if so) what the cause of it is. This is an important topic to discuss openly, and we are looking forward to lively and thought-stimulating debate on it. So that it does not disrupt other discussions though, please keep these discussions in the "Locations Effect Theory" section.
Another disagreement is on whether particular locations are "good" or "bad." The whole point of this board is for everyone to be able to contribute their experiences of different places. Please share your experiences openly, keeping in mind that others' experiences may differ.
People with neuroimmune illness tend to be especially sensitive to their environments, and respond strongly to all kinds of stimuli (e.g. sound, light, chemicals, foods). Most of us have had frustrating experiences with people telling us that we are "imagining things" and should "get over it." The same thing is true in terms of how people feel in general in particular locations. Please try to give members the benefit of the doubt that they are reporting their own experiences accurately, rather than dismiss what they are saying.
Some people are resistant to the idea that the place that they are currently living may be "bad," and respond negatively to suggestions that they might want to move. Since part of the goal of this board is to learn to take advantage of the Locations Effect, comments about the effects that a particular location may have on someone's health (e.g. "You might feel better if you moved to a different area") are appropriate. However, we all are doing the best that we can to get better with the resources we have available (otherwise we wouldn't be on this board!), and the Locations Effect is not yet scientifically proven. Thus, comments such as "If you really wanted to get better, you would move" should be avoided.
The goal of this board is to share information about the Locations Effect. It is not a support or social forum. We welcome contributions from all members, regardless of their personalities. Assessments of people's personalities are irrelevant to the mission of this board and not welcome here.
Because we are trying to determine how specific locations affect people with different diseases, it's appropriate to discuss what specific disease(s) people posting here have. Obviously though, even if someone does not qualify for (say) a diagnosis of ME, that does not mean that s/he does not have a "real disease." Regardless of what symptoms people report, please avoid conferring an "All in Your Head" diagnosis on them.
In general, many problems on message boards result from people passing judgments on other people's personalities or life choices. Hopefully if we keep such judgments off the board, things will be calmer and more helpful for everyone.
